The Air Transport Association announced an agreement today between 8 airlines, Rentech, Inc. and Aircraft Services International Group (ASIG). The agreement calls for purchasing 1.5 million gallons a year of renewable synthetic diesel (RenDiesel) for ground service equipment starting in 2012 at LAX.
The airlines involved are Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, UPS Airlines and US Airways, but more airlines are expected to join the initiative as well.
We’re excited to see Southern California lead the way on both the development (Rentech is based in Los Angeles, CA and its planned production facilities will be in Rialto, CA) and use of renewable energy and excited to see synthetic fuel used in any capacity – even though this agreement for now only covers LAX, only ground vehicles and will not go into effect until 2012.. – any move toward broader use of renewable fuel is a good move in the right direction and we look forward to seeing RenJet renewable jet fuel making headlines in the near future.
Here’s a comparison between regular petro-diesel and RenDiesel: – is this what they mean when they talk about transparency in energy markets?..
